Stay out of the woods

🚨Important safety update: restrictions in effect as of August 5🚨

If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s what Nova Scotia’s government has just announced to help prevent wildfires:

  • Woods are off-limits: As of 4:00 PM on August 5, all travel and activities in wooded areas—including hiking, camping, fishing, and vehicle use—are prohibited
until at least October 15 or until conditions improve.
  • Trail systems through the woods are closed. You can still access beaches and open parks (non-wooded areas), but not via forested paths. Camping is only permitted
    in official campgrounds.
  • The provincewide burn ban remains in place — no open fires of any kind, any time of day.
  • Fine for violations: Up to $25,000 for breaking these rules.

Still have options!

You can enjoy Nova Scotia’s beauty—safe options remain:

  • Explore beaches and coastal parks
  • Visit playgrounds, sports fields, and open green spaces
  • Use charcoal or gas BBQs and cooking appliances according to the manufacturer's instructions

Please stay safe and respect the restrictions to protect our community and prevent fire risk during these extremely dry conditions.
